6 Reasons Why Local School Councils (LSCs) Should Blog

Adenia Linker - Lane Tech College Prep Local School Council Candidate Statement

My name is Adenia Linker, and I am excited to submit my application for candidacy to join the Lane Tech College Prep High School Local School Council.

Our twins, now freshman at two different selective enrollment high schools, have been CPS students since first attending kindergarten at Murray Language Academy in Hyde Park. During their elementary years, I served a variety of volunteer roles including PTA Wellness Chair, and I truly enjoyed interacting with the student body and administration. I will graduate from DePaul University this summer with a degree focusing on Wellness Education. These studies have pushed me deep into the investigation of school policy barriers, and the challenges funding and school climate add to the day. I look forward to utilizing this new expertise to best serve the schools in my community, specifically Lane Tech.

By joining the Lane Tech LSC, I hope to bring a new set of eyes to the table. Dr. LoBosco's retirement announcement charges the incoming LSC members with an incredibly critical decision. My experience as a wellness advocate would serve as liaison between the LSC and the newly formed PTSO Wellness Committee. Given the economic issues facing our school system, I agree with educationalist and philosopher, Nel Noddings who insists that schools need systems where “the easier or default choice is the healthy choice” at no cost to the school. I have the time and energy to devote to supporting such systems at Lane Tech and look forward to your support.
